Qatar-Egypt trade volume grew by 50 percent last year, says Qatar Chamber Chairman

Qatar Chamber recently participated in the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce which is the first chamber of commerce in Egypt, the Arab and African region, and in the 49th of the establishment of the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME).
The Chamber’s delegation was led its Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani and included board members, Rashid bin Nasser Al Kaabi, Mohmed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli and Mrs. Ibtihaj Al Ahmadani, as well as the general manager Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.
Held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s headquarters on October 13-14, the ceremony included several sessions that reviewed the role performed by chambers of commerce at the global level in facing global events and changes, the vision of the private sector on climate change, and the role of Mediterranean ports in global trade.
In a statement, HE Sheikh Khalifa said that Qatar and Alexandria chambers enjoy good relations which come in the framework of the distinguished relations between Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers, as well as through their membership in the Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
Sheikh Khalifa pointed to the distinguished relations between Qatari and Egyptian businessmen, indicating that the private sector on both sides plays key role in developing the two countries’ economic relations.
“Last year, Qatar-Egypt trade volume amounted to QR 239mn, registering a 50% growth compared to QR 159mn in 2020,” he noted.
Qatari imports from Egypt include television sets, doors, windows and unplasticized chloride polymers, while Egypt imports from Qatar ethylene polymers, aluminum, and chemical products.
QC Chairman further stressed the strong will of both parties to further strengthen their commercial and investment cooperation through establishing joint ventures in various economic sectors.
On her part, QC board member Ibtihaj Al Ahmadani participated in the “Mediterranean Women Enterprenerers Forum” which was held on the sidelines of the framework of the celebrations. During the forum, she highlighted the leading role played by businesswomen in the economy and trade. She also stressed that Qatari businesswomen own businesses in almost all sectors and have significant contributions in the economic boom Qatar witnesses.
